Body Geography
This series of artwork captures the unyielding pressure placed on individuals, especially women, to conform to society's standards. The delicate lines superimposed onto the female form resemble fishnet stockings, creating a striking parallel to a cartographer's map. Each curve, crevice, and imperfection are meticulously scrutinized, as if this landscape of a body was meant to be studied, analyzed, and judged. From stretch marks and fat to hair and wrinkles, every centimeter is subject to evaluation in our collective fixation on attaining the ideal physique. This obsession silently permeates our daily lives, impacting our self-esteem and the way we relate to our own bodies.
One can't help but notice the striking contrast between the body's grid, which is overlaid upon it, and the grid's own imperfections. The lines that should be straight often twist and bend around the body's curves. This imperfection in the grid serves as a powerful symbol of the flawed and unrealistic standards that society imposes on us.
